Ingredients
- 1½ to 2 cups hulled and sliced fresh strawberries
- 750mL vodka
- Two large clean bottles or jars
- Cheesecloth or other fine strainer
- Funnel
Instructions
- Thoroughly wash hulled strawberries, pat dry, then slice.
- In a large clean bottle or jar, add sliced strawberries and vodka.
- After sealing, give the container a gentle shake to mix the vodka and strawberries.
- Store the infusion in a cool, dark place for approximately 3 to 4 days, and give the mix a firm swirl every day.
- Before straining, sample the infusion by pouring it into a glass. If you want more flavor, allow the strawberries to steep longer.
- If the flavor is good, carefully remove the strawberries and discard them.
- Funnel the infused vodka into the second clean bottle, filtering with the cheesecloth.
- Carefully seal.
You can use the strawberry vodka right away. You can also store the new vodka in a tightly sealed container in a cool, dark place for approximately one to two years without the quality decreasing. Discard when the flavor starts to fade or tastes "off."
Variations of Strawberry-Infused Vodka
Strawberries are great on their own, and so is a strawberry vodka, but that doesn't mean you need to stop now. Dream of bigger flavors, like the timeless strawberry basil flavor!
- Consider adding a half cup of coarsely chopped almonds, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, shelled pistachios, or walnuts for a savory, nutty flavor.
- Give it a flair by adding a tablespoon of cloves or two to three sprigs of basil or mint.
- Capitalize on the fruit flavors and add a half to full cup of blackberries, pitted mango or papaya, peeled and cubed pineapple, pomegranate seeds, or raspberries.
- Citrus will brighten the strawberry flavor, so add two to three whole sliced limes or lemons, as well as a large whole sliced orange.
- Make your infusion a little sweeter by adding a half cup of honey or maple syrup.
