Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the ice, rum, vodka, Irish cream, coffee liqueur, amaretto, and cream of coconut.
  2. Blend on high until smooth.
  3. Pour into a collins or hurricane glass. Garnish with the whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and a grating of nutmeg.

Variations and Substitutions

Want to vary your frozen bushwacker? Try the following.

  • Omit crushed ice and instead use 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream or coconut ice cream.
  • Add 1 ounce of banana liqueur.
  • Replace vodka with caramel flavored vodka.

Garnishes

This is a very dessert-y drink, and therefore dessert toppings are perfect. Along with the whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and nutmeg garnish try:

  • Replace chocolate syrup with caramel syrup.
  • Dip the rim of the glass in caramel or chocolate syrup and then in coconut flakes or coconut sugar.
  • Top with whipped cream and grated orange zest.

About the Frozen Bushwhacker

If you like to drink your dessert as a cocktail, then the frozen bushwacker is the perfect drink for you. This classic tropical flavored drink is the cocktail equivalent of a milkshake, and it is sweet, creamy, and delicious. Since its invention in the mid-1970s on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, the bushwacker has reminded drinkers of a heavenly chocolate piña colada. It's said that the drink was named after a dog that hung out at the bar where it was invented (his name was Bushwack), and the drink made its way from St. Thomas to Florida bars, where it became a Southern mainstay. In fact, in honor of the drink, Pensacola, FL holds a Bushwacker festival annually.

A Sweet, Tropical Sipper

Whether it's dessert you pine for or a piña colada, the Bushwacker has you covered. With smooth, sweet, creamy, and tropical notes, you can't help but fall in love with this tasty drink.
