Everyone knows 'em, and you either love them or hate them: bomb drinks. Sometimes known by their aliases bomb shot or depth charge, these are some of the easiest drinks to make but can be one of the hardest to take -- depending on if the clock is running and if the ingredients truly are palatable. Buckle up and select your favorite of these hard-hitting bomb drinks.
Jägerbomb
It's the bomb drink that needs no introduction: the Jägerbomb. But if you've yet to meet this foe on a bar battlefield, it does not need chugging like the Irish slammer, but it'll jump-start your heart with a bit of energy drink. Life pro tip: if you want the buzz-buzz without the chug, fill a highball glass with ice, add your Jägermeister, then top off with your preferred energy drink.
Ingredients
- 2 ounces Jägermeister
- 4 ounces energy drink, such as Red Bull
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add Jägermeister.
- In a pint glass, add four ounces of energy drink.
- Drop shot glass into pint glass.
- Bombs away!
Irish Slammer
Do not enter into an Irish slammer accord lightly, and certainly don't end your night with one of these. From the moment the shot of whiskey and Irish cream meets the beer, you gotta start chugging until it's gone.
Ingredients
- ½ ounce Irish cream
- ½ ounce whiskey
- 5 ounces stout beer
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add Irish cream and whiskey.
- In a pint glass, add stout.
- Drop shot glass into stout.
- Drink immediately and quickly.
Sake Bomb
Grab your favorite sake. It doesn't need to be top shelf since you'll soon be submerging it in beer for a depth charge that'll knock your socks off but without any of that bitter burn of most others.
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add sake.
- In a rocks or pint glass, add pilsner.
- Drop shot glass into pilsner.
- Drink!
Berry Bomb
Mix up a berry liquor with vodka, and don't forget the energy drink for a cocktail that still requires a bit of quick drinking but won't have the herbaceous flavors of divisive Jägermeister. Are energy drinks a bit too much for you? Use hard cider instead!
Ingredients
- ¾ ounce raspberry liqueur
- ½ ounce vodka
- 4 ounces berry-flavored energy drink or hard cider
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add raspberry liqueur and vodka.
- In a pint or rocks glass, add energy drink.
- Drop shot glass into energy drink.
- Enjoy!
Soju Bomb
Soju, a clear Korean distilled alcohol, has a sweet flavor and is something you'll typically enjoy neat or on its own. But in the world of bomb drinks, no booze is off-limits.
Ingredients
- 1 ounce soju
- 5 ounces light beer, such as a pilsner
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add soju.
- In a pint glass, add beer.
- Drop shot glass into beer.
- Ready, set, go!
Smurf Bomb
It's a fizzy shot that's not quite as boozy as the rest, thanks to the lemon-lime soda that acts as the base for this bomb drink.
Ingredients
- ½ ounce vodka
- ½ ounce cranberry juice
- ¾ ounce blue curaçao
- 3 ounces lemon-lime soda
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add vodka and cranberry juice.
- In a rocks glass, add blue curaçao and lemon-lime soda.
- Drop shot glass into soda.
- Bottoms up!
Flaming Dr. Pepper
Take a gulp of almost Dr. Pepper with this fiery shot. Don't worry, it's not spicy. Just make sure the fire is fully extinguished before taking this dropped shot.
Ingredients
- ¾ ounce amaretto liqueur
- ¼ ounce navy or overproof rum
- 6 ounces lager
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add amaretto liqueur.
- Slowly add overproof rum, pouring down the back of a bar spoon.
- In a pint glass, add lager.
- Carefully ignite the shot.
- Extinguish prior to dropping shot glass into beer.
- On your mark ... go!
Boilermaker
The bomb drink that probably started it all is the boilermaker. A classic combination of beer and whiskey, it's one that'll give your chest a bit of a burn. Upside, there are a few ways to down this drink. You can drop the shot glass into the beer as the recipe says and then chug it or pour the shot into the beer without dropping the entire glass into a beer. If chugging isn't your cup of tea, you can enjoy this like you would any beer. How do you think the vanilla vodka with pumpkin beer combination came to be?
Ingredients
- 1½ ounces whiskey
- 6 ounces beer, lager, IPA, or pale ale
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add whiskey.
- In a pint glass, add beer.
- Drop whiskey shot into beer.
- Get going!
Lagoon Bomb
Shorten your trip to a tropical blue lagoon with a bomb drink. Add more coconut vodka to the mix if you want yours to be a bit boozier. Otherwise, sit back and enjoy the tidal wave.
Ingredients
- ¾ ounce blue curaçao
- ¼ ounce coconut vodka
- 3 ounces lemonade
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add blue curaçao and coconut vodka.
- In a pint glass, add lemonade.
- Drop shot glass into lemonade.
- Surfs up!
Vegas Bomb Shot
You'll want to sit down before, during, and after this shot. They say everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but a few too many of these and you won't be able to remember,

- ½ ounce whiskey
- ½ ounce cranberry juice
- ½ ounce peach liqueur
- 4 ounces energy drink
Instructions
- In a shot glass, add whiskey, cranberry juice, and peach liqueur.
- In a pint glass, add energy drink.
- Drop shot glass into energy drink.
- Party time!
